Although experiential travel and sustainable tourism are intrinsically interlinked, knowledge of sustainability standards and how they can be applied to experience design is limited. When designing experiences, it is important that you ensure the protection, preservation and enhancement of local sites and traditions of historical, archaeological, cultural and spiritual significance. When designing experiences it is equally important to enhance visitors’ perceived experience value. On the one hand travelers want to feel they are “giving back” and ”being responsible”; they want to maximise the positive impacts and minimize the negative impacts of their travels. They express concerns about the environmental and socio-cultural impact of their travel in areas such as waste-management, water pollution, climate change, child protection, supply chains and community engagement. Sustainable Sri Lanka can help you design experiences in a way that is consistent with sustainability standards and best practices.
